The Road Goes Ever On: The Next Chapter
I started writing this blog nearly 20 years ago, in part because I wanted to journal the awesome places found within the geographical borders of the Colorado Plateau. In that span, I traveled into and through many amazing landscapes, experiencing the thrill and appreciation of the unknown each time I turned the corner or crested a hill to see some new (to me) vista.
Truthfully I can't say that I've seen it all, for the scope and scale of the region is simply too large to explore fully in a single lifetime, even if all I ever did was travel. Life doesn't work that way, and the need to meet the myriad obligations that constitute daily living prevent most of us from having the time to even scratch the surface. I did more than many, but I realize now there are some places I'm not going to see, and that's O.K.
As I've gotten older, I've shifted my focus on the time remaining to me. I'm still reasonably fit and capable, and with the world still a very large and mostly unknown (again to me) place, I feel compelled to travel beyond my backyard. Just as I know I can't possibly see every place that appeals to my sense of wonder, I am attempting to prioritize my future wandering so that I'll at least get to some of the locations I've always wanted to visit.
My exploration and personal discovery of the Southwest will always be a part of me, and I continue to enjoy living in proximity to the places that helped to shape my appreciation of the natural world. But going forward, this blog will now serve as testament to my new adventures as I continue my journeys farther from home.
